Classic Lambda stops at 900 seconds. Lambda Managed Instances can run async work for 5,400 seconds. Anything longer than that band belongs on AWS Batch, not on the VM that only exists for the schedule.
On 19 October 2026 the CodeBuild pricing page bills its on-demand EC2 example at $0.005 a minute: 400 minutes after the 100-minute free tier is $2. The 23 September 2025 DORA report, from nearly 5,000 respondents, says 90% of organizations already run at least one internal platform.
Five stop conditions, checked 4 October 2026. If the SLO is met and the only pain is a bill, modernization is the wrong program. Continue only when change rate, a seam, or a renewal forces it.
AWS Transform is several products. Continuous modernization went generally available on 3 August 2026. Pick one primary capability for the estate, or the program runs two campaigns at once.

A lab schedule after the 3 August 2026 GA returned findings and zero pull requests. Agentic-readiness scores 56 criteria. AWS-managed compute runs analyses only — remediation still needs Batch or EC2.
A lab query still returned a customer the source deleted. Zero-ETL can land DynamoDB and listed SaaS sources in S3 Tables. A self-managed database cannot. Firehose database CDC was removed on 24 September 2025.
A lab table landed twice: Zero-ETL and DMS on the same rows. Self-managed databases replicate only to Redshift. Firehose Direct PUT into Iceberg is capped at 5 MiB/s in three regions, and database CDC was removed on 24 September 2025.
A lab renewal only changed the connection string, and a construct was still unconverted. Babelfish speaks TDS 7.1 through 7.4 on port 1433 and does not apply to Oracle. Identifiers longer than 63 characters are rewritten.
As of 3 October 2026 the managed AWS MCP Server has endpoints in 8 Regions, a hard cap of 10 authenticated requests per second, and two auth paths. OAuth is the single-account start. SigV4 is the one that can hide write tools and switch accounts.
