Pricing MCP was permission-blocked; rates are the first-tier list prices quoted in AWS Textract pricing examples (US West Oregon; us-east-1 assumed equal). Who This Tool Is For

ML engineers, automation architects, and product teams processing high-volume documents — invoices, medical records, identity documents, or mortgage packets on AWS.

Why We Built This Tool

Textract's OCR costs $1.50/1K pages, but enabling Tables triggers $15.00/1K and Forms $50.00/1K on the same document — a 10–33× jump that surprises most teams at scale.

What Problem It Solves

  • Forms vs OCR cost shock. Switching from DetectDocumentText to AnalyzeDocument with FORMS on 100K pages raises the bill from $150 to $5,000.
  • Tables as a cost multiplier. AnalyzeDocument with TABLES at $15/1K stacks on FORMS at $50/1K — combining both on a page adds both charges.
  • Lending pipeline underestimation. Analyze Lending bills $0.07 for every page in a mortgage packet — 47× the DetectDocumentText rate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do Forms and Tables cost 10–33× more than standard OCR?

DetectDocumentText ($1.50/1K) extracts raw text positions. AnalyzeDocument with TABLES ($15.00/1K) or FORMS ($50.00/1K) performs structural analysis — cell/row/column structure for tables, or key-value relationship detection for forms. Forms is the most expensive pretrained feature.

What does the Textract free tier cover?

For three months, new customers get 1,000 pages/month of DetectDocumentText, 100 pages/month of AnalyzeDocument Forms, Tables, or Queries, 100 pages/month each of AnalyzeExpense and AnalyzeID, and 2,000 pages/month of Analyze Lending. This calculator models the 1,000-page DetectDocumentText free tier only.

When should I use Queries instead of Forms?

Use AnalyzeDocument Queries ($15.00/1K) when you know the exact field names you need (e.g., "invoice total", "vendor name"). Queries extract targeted fields for less than Forms. Use Forms ($50.00/1K) when you need to discover all key-value pairs in a document without knowing the field structure in advance.

Does Textract charge per page or per API call?

Textract charges per page processed, not per API call. A single API call that processes a 10-page PDF is billed as 10 pages. Asynchronous (batch) and synchronous APIs use the same per-page rate.

What is Analyze Lending and how is it priced?

Analyze Lending processes mortgage application packets — it classifies each document type, splits multi-document packets at document boundaries, and extracts the data. It bills one per-page rate of $0.07 for the first 1M pages per month ($0.055 beyond) in us-east-1, so a 100-page mortgage packet costs $7.00.

Are synchronous and asynchronous Textract APIs priced the same?

Yes. The same per-page rates apply to both synchronous (StartDocumentTextDetection, StartDocumentAnalysis) and asynchronous APIs. Rates are first-tier list prices as of 2026-10-17. See AWS Textract pricing for current rates.
